Community and School

The School for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SET) is a comprehensive four-year public charter high school serving grades 9-12. SET is fully accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). SET is located in a state-of-the-art, two-story campus in suburban Serra Mesa in the heart of San Diego. SET’s diverse academic student body will never exceed 320 students, assuring a highly-personalized learning environment.  

Honors and Mesa College Classes

Honors: US History, Economics, Government, English 9-12, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Calculus, Chemistry – 5.0 grading scale

Mesa College Classes: Students are eligible to take 2 college classes per semester after they have completed 10th grade and 3 college classes per semester when they have completed the minimum UC A-G requirements.

Graduation Requirements

University of California A-G Graduation Requirements:

Students must complete a minimum of 44 credits that include the following requirements:

English: 8 Credits, Social Science: 6 Credits, Mathematics: 6 Credits, Science: 6 Credits, Physical Education: 4 Credits, Visual and Performing Arts: 2 Credits, World Language: 4 Credits, Electives: 8 Credits. A final Reflection of Knowledge presentation are also required to receive a SET Diploma.

Calculation of Grade Point Average: SET calculates the academic grade point average on a weighted 4.0 scale that includes all subjects taken from sophomore through senior year, except physical education. The following breakdown is used:

GPA: A=4, B=3, C=2, F=0.

Grading Scale: A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, F=0-69

All required College Preparatory coursework must be passed with a grade of C or better.

No D Policy: A grade of D is considered “not proficient” by SET standards and is not compliant with UC/CSU admissions policies.

Add an additional point for Honors (e.g. A = 5.00)

SET does not rank its students.

Title IX

Title IX is a federal law that was passed in 1972 to ensure that male and female students and employees in educational settings are treated equally and fairly. It protects against discrimination based on sex (including sexual harassment). In addition, Title IX protects transgender students and students who do not conform to sex stereotypes. State law also prohibits discrimination based on gender (sex), gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The preamble to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states that:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Is there a statute of limitations for filing an alleged incident of harassment or discrimination?

Any parent, guardian, individual, organization has the right to file a written complaint of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying on the basis of a protected characteristic within six months from the date the alleged incident occurred or the complainant first obtained knowledge of the facts of the alleged incident.

The timeline for filing a complaint of discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and/or bullying is extended by the Title IX Coordinator or designee, upon written request by the complainant setting forth the reasons for the extension. Such extension by the Title IX Coordinator or designee shall be made in writing. The period for filing may be extended by the Title IX Coordinator or designee for good cause for a period not to exceed 90 days following the expiration of the six month time period. The Title IX Coordinator shall respond appropriately upon a receipt of a request for extension.

How are discrimination complaints investigated?

Complaints filed to SET are conducted pursuant to its Uniform Complaint Procedures (“UCP”) policy. Under SET’s UCP policy, SET has 60 calendar days from office receipt to investigate the complaint and to send a letter with findings to relevant parties. During the investigative process, SET shall contact complainant and other applicable parties to request documents and information. SET provides an opportunity for the complainant to present evidence or information to support his/her allegations.

A complaint may be filed anonymously if it provides evidence or information leading to evidence to support an allegation of noncompliance.
